Difference between FUT and FUE hair transplant

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) are highly advanced hair transplantation techniques for hair restoration with a high success rate. The main difference between FUT and FUE is that in FUT the surgeon removes a strip of scalp skin from which to extract individual follicular units which are then transferred to the areas of hair loss whereas in FUE the surgeon will extract individual follicular units directly from the scalp and implant them in donor areas.

FUT

  • Generally yields higher number of grafts and suitable for covering large areas
  • Leaves a thin scar on the scalp
  • Is an invasive procedures
  • Needs more recovery time

FUE

  • Is more time consuming than FUT
  • Completely scar less
  • Yields better results
  • faster recovery
